Defying Gravity Minimize

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”
                                                                                                1 Timothy 6:17-18

I hope you will find our upcoming “Defying Gravity” series to be thoughtful and a source of encouragement as you consider what it means to live a more generous life. On Sunday, October 22, the final Sunday of the series, we are asking those who call this church their home to return an Estimate of Giving card for the coming year. We ask you to fill out this card as a spiritual practice. I have discovered that generosity does not happen by accident. It requires planning. It has to be a goal. It has to fit into a budget. The Estimate of Giving card is a starting point in that process. It will allow you to spend time in prayer and conversation about your income and the ways you spend and save money.

You may already tithe - an offering of ten percent of your income to God. If you do, I want to commend you. I know what a life-altering experience that can be in both financial planning and the joy of giving. If you are not yet tithing, I invite you to consider taking a step toward tithing this year. Look at your current giving and determine what percentage of your income you are offering to God. Then consider raising that amount by at least one percent. Most people reach their goal of the tithe through an incremental journey. Your Estimate of Giving card is a way to make a goal for giving during the coming year.

Filling out this card also helps our church consider its mission and ministry for the coming year as we continue to CELEBRATE LIFE (Love God, Invite Others, Fellowship Together, and Engage the Community). Please see the enclosed page illustrating some of the ways your generosity has impacted others this year, both here in our community and around the world. We attempt to be excellent stewards of God’s resources, and knowing what goals for giving our members have set for the coming year is an important piece of information. Between now and October 22, please pray about your giving, talk about your goals for generosity, and take a moment to reflect upon what offering you plan to give to God through our church in the coming year.

Enclosed you will find your Estimate of Giving card and a Step-up Chart along with various ways to give. Please pray about your giving for next year and fill out your card (please note that the ministry fund and the mortgage/maintenance are two separate funds). This Estimate of Giving card can be offered to God in several ways:
• Turn in your card on Sunday, October 22.
• If you will be away on October 22. place your card in the offering plate any Sunday in October.
• Mail your card to the church (an envelope is enclosed for your convenience).

Again, thank you for all you do to support God’s work here at Mt. Pisgah. I am grateful for the ways you are living a generous life within our own church and beyond. Your giving matters. Your giving makes an eternal difference.

Sincerely,

Rev. Bob Cooper, Lead Pastor
